About Naylor Mill Forest

Naylor Mill Park started out as “The Lumber Mill at Naylor’s Pond,” and was one of several steam powered lumber/ grist mills in operation in Wicomico County during the late 1800’s.

In the early 1900’s a fire burned the mill to the ground. The mill was never rebuilt and the land was left alone, being passed down through several different families until the city of Salisbury bought the property in 1969.

The city left but gave permission to the Salisbury Mountain Bike club and Running club to create and maintain trails within the property.

In 2014, Wicomico County asked the city to donate the land for the construction of new softball fields for the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex. However, during the September of 2015, citizens of Salisbury joined together and voiced their concern over the destruction of this unique property at a public hearing. The City Council member’s agreed to keep the land in its natural state and turn this land into a new park.

The Forest at Naylor Mill is free for the public to use for recreation, whether it be for hiking, biking, running, or photography. The forest serves to protect our city’s water supply within the Paleo Channel, protect biodiversity, and improve the quality of life of those who enter it.
